How to Finish a Steakhouse Dinner
Share
After a substantial steakhouse meal, dessert works best when the portions are intentional and the flavors provide contrast rather than another heavy course.
Choose contrast
Pair rich brownies with berries or coffee, buttery pound cake with citrus, and cookies with espresso or milk.
Serve smaller portions
Cut bars and cake into tasting portions so guests can sample more than one item.
Use temperature well
Bring pound cake and brownies toward room temperature, and warm cookies briefly when desired. Keep whipped toppings chilled.
Build a simple presentation
Arrange two or three desserts with fruit, citrus zest, or mint for a polished finish without complicated preparation.
Use a thermometer
For food safety, USDA guidance calls for beef, pork, lamb, and veal steaks, chops, and roasts to reach at least 145°F followed by a 3-minute rest. Use an instant-read thermometer in the thickest part, away from bone and large pockets of fat.
